Hey Blondie

The Hey Blondie top is an exploration of technical design, analyzing the differences between simulation and real life. From patterning in Gerber to simulating in CLO 3D, we can identify the limitations and adaptations of designing in a virtual space.
IDEATION

GERBER PATTERNS
To begin pattern making, knit foundation blocks are a necessity. Using "Pattern Making for Knit Fabrics" by Julie Cole, basic knit foundations were created in varieties of minimal stretch, moderate stretch, very stretchy, and super stretchy. Once the blocks were prepared, patterns were manipulated to the desired garment style lines.

CLO FIT TESTING
Using the CLO Fabric kit, product fabric was imported directly to CLO to ensure the most accurate rendering. Parameters such as fabric thickness, stretch, bend, and weight were calculated and used to create an identical fabric to the desired product.

Modifications:
Stress, strain, and fit maps determined the adjustments made to the pattern for proper fit. Once there was minimal stress, modifications for ruching were made.

Though most of the characteristics of the top came through in the physical product, there are stylistic differences. The physical product has more drag lines than the simulation presents. The simulation neckline looks stiff and more structured in comparison. To avoid this in the future, more attention could be paid to the Additional Thickness Rendering.
